The large room known as the Quadreria displays portraits of the noble Castiglioni family. The family’s notable descendants include Cardinal Branda Castiglioni, two popes, and numerous men of law and culture. These portraits were created by workshops active in the 17th and 18th centuries. Of particular interest are two complementary portraits: 1. Sabba Castiglione, depicted in prayer before a crucifix, is a copy of a fresco detail in the commendatory apse of the Church of the Comedy in Faenza by Gerolamo da Treviso. 2. Bartolomeo Castiglioni, a Knight Hospitaller and Sabba’s nephew, succeeded his uncle as commendatory of Faenza in 1544.
